Transportation companies, shippers and manufacturers — beware of the increased risk of cargo theft over the long Labor Day weekend, running September 1 through 4. Labor Day through Christmas is considered high season for cargo theft, with incidents spiking around 40 percent, according to FBI statistics.

The long Labor Day weekend, running September 2 through 5, is upon us — and so is the increase in cargo theft risks for transportation companies, shippers and manufacturers. According to FreightWatch International, of the 166 reported cargo theft incidents in second quarter 2016, "82 percent occurred in unsecured parking locations". Theft of full truckload also continues to be most prevalent, making up 78 percent of thefts."
